Im working with some videos which are xvid (avi) and mp4 - and i need to be able to split them in the middle, i.e if it 30 mins long, from 15m-20m - so i was wondering which was the best and most efficient tool to accomplish this, keeping in mind that the extracted part must NOT be re-encoded.
In doing some research myself, i think menco ... wmv VS H264 for YouTube? Also, dimentions. - upscaling DVavi to 720p works just dandy, don't bother with bad looking black borders.... Problem capturing HDV with quad G5 and Lacie drives - does it happen with capturing SD DVavi from the cam also? SD video capture seems to work even when multiple FW devices are attached. So, it seems to be isolated to HDV.

the link you posted doesn't work.... Particular AVI not playing in MPC - start with a g-spot of the file in question, and perhaps a reinstall of FFDShow ... Encoding avi to dvd - For 23.976 fps DVDs, set the 3:2 pulldown in the Options tab. Not doing so is a common reason for stuttering playback in Apple DVD Player, and unpredictable behavior on stand-alone players.

sounds like a noscript or some other blocking add-on needs your permission to run scripts on yt.... rca jacks on media center pc - There will be no time delay when using these RCA ports to capture video. And you can install the free software Virtual VCR to capture video with this setup. Your problem is something that extends to many Gateway users. Is your source 16:9 or 2.35:1 or ?... dvd/mpeg problem - I have a few problematic discs ive just recieved from a friend, they all play perfectly well on my standalone DVD player and also on my computer. I have issues when converting the vobs to mpeg2 for editing. Generally I use Womble Mpeg Wizard DVD for much of my editing, but when i import the dvd files, it comes up short so to speak, the playing leng ... QT to FLV results in jerky video - Case: You mentioned encoding twice, first to XviD and then to FLV. I tried this, but my resulting XviD (avi) has no audio. Specific advice on Xvid settings while using ffmpegX? Hard to say what went wrong without having a look at the log. Did you try both XviD ffmpeg and XviD mencoder? ... slow playback on 1080p videos with COREAVC - Did you verify your hard drives are running in DMA mode? I'd try disabling any A/V software -- at least as a test (some will scan every file as it comes off the disk, greatly increasing CPU usage). Otherwise, I'm out of ideas!... Testing with a digital converter box on a cable system. - I'd be glad to see analog eliminated (or dropped down to the ~half dozen local OTA channels only) if they made all those channels available via clear QAM and bumped the bitrate up to reduce the macroblocking.... Annoying VMR9 Issue with Hi-Def WMV9 and MPG2 Files (Dropping Frames) - I have found that sometimes AC3 decoders cause problems with the video jerking like you describe. You might try demuxing one of your videos and playing just the video stream to see if that makes any difference.
Have you tried using MPCHC ? That is currently my favorite media player.... Mencoder versions - I am using a program I have for converting my avi's to a format for my portable player. This program uses mencoder to do the encoding. I have noticed that there are several versions of mencoder. I was wondering if any of these take advantage of mult-core cpu's:

The DVDs either tend to come up missing or an instructor will swear a certain DVD doesn't play in the DVD player. I ... Divx 7 released - In the early SD (ie. 480i/p) days, I used to be a fan of DivX, but they just have not kept up with the times. I've since then moved on to using various free tools and codecs and now almost exclusively encode using the MKV container (eg. x264/AC3/DTS/etc).
